Promoting Digital Education of Foreign-Language Children through Machine Translation
TAČR Sigma project
The project aims to help mitigate language (and social) barriers between non-Czech-speaking
children in the Czech Republic and the education in the Czech school system. Linking the fields of
digital education, linguistics, translation studies and machine translation, the project focuses
on the development and dissemination of multilingual digital learning materials for students in
primary and secondary schools. By adapting the latest machine translation methods, the project will 1) develop
multilingual interactive content for a major Czech learning portal Škola s nadhledem, and 2) create digital language-learning materials. The project will focus first on translation between Czech and Ukrainian, then on English, German, etc. The resulting applications will be freely available to educators and researchers.
Results 2024:

Integration of the translator into the Škola s nadhledem web portal:
The translation system was fully integrated with Fraus' internal production tools via API. The UI of selected interactive environments was modified to support the display and free switching of languages, i.e. users can switch the language of the exercises on the web portal between the original Czech and the translation into Ukrainian. The whole system is ready for adding translations into other languages.

Підтримка цифрової освіти іншомовних дітей за допомогою машинного перекладу
Проєкт TAČR Sigma
Проєкт має на меті послаблення мовного (і соціального) барʼєрів між дітьми, які не говорять чеською мовою і проживають у Чеській Республіці, і чеською освітньою системою. Поєднуючи сфери онлайн-навчання, лінгвістики, перекладознавства та машинного перекладу, проєкт сфокусовано на розвитку і поширенні цифрових багатомовних навчальних матеріалів для школярів у початкових і середніх школах. Адаптуючи найсучайніші методи машинного перекладу, під час проєкту буде :
1. Розроблено багатомовний інтерактивний контент для великого чеського навчального порталу Škola s nadhledem, а також
2. Створено цифрові матеріали для вивчення мови.
Спочатку проєкт буде сфокусовано на перекладі між чеською і українською, потім англійською, німецькою, і т. д. Отримані застосунки буде розміщено у вільному доступі для педагогів і дослідників.
